The Great Road Encampment (18th Century Encampment)

The Great Road Encampment will be held Saturday, August 4th and Sunday, August 5th at Elliston's Eastern Montgomery Park. The Encampment is an 18th Century Encampment (1700-1799) with demonstrations, presentations and more.
Featuring demonstrations by 18th Century Reenactors, presentations on the history of The Great Road as well as lectures by speakers that are scheduled to appear Saturday including Lee Offen, Author of Gooch’s American Regiment, 1740-1742, America's First Marines. Plus we will have The Virginia Company of Roger's Rangers along with a Detached Military Hospital and Medicine of the time.
Demonstrations include:
- Flintlock Muskets
- Camp Cooking
- Knife and Tomahawk Throwing
- LeatherWork
- 18th Century Clothing
- and more...
The Great Road was the main thoroughfare going west to the Frontier. It was traveled by the likes of George Washington, Daniel Boone, Andrew Lewis, William Preston, Adam Harman, the Ingles and Draper families. This Event honors all who passed through the Valleys of Southwest Virginia in the quest for a better life.
Admission is free however donations are welcome. The event is rain or shine.
Eastern Montgomery Park is located beside the Elliston Fire Department at (5001 Enterprise Drive).
