Join The Green Heron Art Center for Batik Basics. The class is a double session and is five hours long and is designed for beginners and veteran batik artists alike.
In this class, beginners will learn the basic of applying melted wax to fabric to serve as a resist to fabric dyes. The piece can be waxed and dyed in multiple layers to create intricate and colorful images and patterns.
We will also experiment with various hand-dyeing techniques and fabric pastels and pens. The number of classes needed for additional wax and dye layers depends greatly upon the project. The class is taught by Becky Lattuca.
Note: If only two sessions are chosen, beginner students will apply one layer of wax and dye their pieces one color. The more sessions one attends, the more layers of wax and colors can be applied to each piece.
Each session is $25, with a two session minimum. This session is a Saturday session and counts as two sessions.
For those who have attended the beginner class, these sessions can be used as 'open studio' time to continue on with additional projects.
Materials fees vary based on the project chosen, starting at $10 for a wall hanging. Choose from wall hangings, T-shirts, skirts, dresses and more!
