Description:
Dogtown Roadhouse presents Chris Long and Mick Kyte in concert on Saturday, January 13, 2018.

Come see singer-songwriter Chris Long perform Americana Heartland Rock along with Mick Kyte.

Growing up in the mountains of Southwest Virginia and the son of a musician, Chris has been around music his whole life. Picking up his first guitar at the age of twelve, he has played in several bands and groups including a regional band that he formed with his father Melvin in the late 90’s.

After taking several years off from music to pursue his education, Chris has returned to music as a singer songwriter performing regionally for the past year. With strong influences from his Heartland Rock roots with artists such as Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp, he enjoys writing about life with a little twist of history to it.

Coming from a region that is deeply rooted in coal mining and farming Chris loves telling the stories of people we see every day that go untold. Passionately painting a picture in your mind, he will make you identify and feel the struggles and triumphs of life, love, loss and war like no other.

Mick Kyte has been writing and performing music around the Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia and Western North Carolina area for more than 30 years. During a recent interview for the Bristol Herald-Courier, he described his musical genre as 'Appalachian Soul'.

Mick's home is known as the Birthplace of Country Music, Bristol, TN is where artists such as The Carter Family, Jimmie Rogers and Uncle Dave Macon first made their voices heard. Mick has been immersed in that musically rich culture his entire life and his music reflects it.

His songs are influenced and infused with his love for Country as well as, Blues, Heartland Rock, a little Bluegrass, Gospel, Folk, and everything else he heard floating through the hills, valleys and mountains in the Southern Appalachians. His songs are mostly introspective and laced with themes that connect his perspectives with the listener through universal experiences and emotions. This integration of musical influences and universal experiences is how Appalachian Soul was born.
