Description:
UPDATE: This tour is full.

The Hahn Horticulture Garden at Virginia Tech presents a Private Tour of the Kark Home and Gardens on Thursday, July 12, 2018.

The Karks enthusiastically purchased their two and one-half acre property almost 27 years ago because it offered unique opportunities for developing a landscape with water features. Warren, an architect, and Margie, an interiors and landscape enthusiast, have had many “inside/outside” projects during those years. (The last one, a two-year project, ended last year.) A constant focus has been enhancing the sense of harmony and serenity and further integrating the house and garden so they are one.

The aesthetic is Asian with natural ponds and streams, large rocks, granite lanterns, and stone walls and patios. The Karks have planted hundreds of shrubs and trees. These include many Japanese maples, conifers, and other trees that provide a wide variety of textures and form a palate of greens, blue, and soft reds. Many trees are pruned in Japanese style. The sound of water and graceful motion of the very large kinetic copper sculptures add to the ambience.

So that participants can experience the integral relationship of the house and gardens, both will be open for the tour.

We will meet at the Hahn Garden and take two vans to the site (less than 15 minute drive). We will return to the garden no later than 8:30 pm.

The cost is $20.00 for the general public and $10.00 for the Friends of the Garden members.

Space is limited to 18 participants, must pre-register by contacting Stephanie at vtgarden@vt.edu or 540-231-5970.

The rain date is July 13th at the same time.
