The Hahn Horticulture Garden at Virginia Tech and Virginia Cooperative Extension presents Family Food Fest: a Youth Day Camp and Evening Family Activities starting on Monday, July 15, 2019 and continuing through Friday, July 19, 2019.
Virginia Cooperative Extension and Hahn Horticulture Garden are offering a fun family program that will include activities for kids and parents. During the day, we will have a gardening and foods camp for youth, and then in the evenings, we will have family activities with the theme of preparing delicious and nutritious meals to build family togetherness.
The youth day camp will feature various hands-on educational gardening activities in the morning; related to productive gardening techniques, cooking and food challenges, food preservation, and more! During the afternoon, we will be taking field trips. These may include farmer’s markets, community gardens, beekeeping sites, picking berries, and others. Transportation will be provided with Virginia Tech Fleet Services vehicles.
In the evening, we will provide education on cooking and food preservation, including tasty recipes using fresh produce. We will also have a fun family cooking challenge to conclude with a family meal, complete with food and table setting etiquette.
The Youth Day Camp will meet Monday to Friday from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm starting at the Hahn Horticulture Garden each day with field trips planned for the afternoon with transportation provided. The Evening Family Program on Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
The cost is $75.00 per child and $25.00 for each additional child in a family. If financial assistance is needed, please contact us about possible payment options. Fee for campers only. The cost includes the family evening activities.
To register online, visit: http://tinyurl.com/vcefoodfest and complete the Google form as instructed. The registration deadline is Friday, June 28, 2019. Limit of 16 youth for the day camp. Once we receive registration, we will send additional information including instructions for payment.
The camp is for youth ages 9 to 13 years old for day camp as of September 30, 2019. Younger children can attend evening activities with family, under parent supervision.
