Description:
SustainFloyd and Apple Ridge Farm present an “Energetic” Day at the Third Annual Floyd Energy Fest on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Chantilly Farm.

The Floyd Energy Fest is an all-day renewable energy event with speakers, exhibits, vendors, workshops and food. Hear experts present fascinating information on solarizing your home, using energy efficient systems, geothermal heating and cooling and how the climate is affecting our local ecology and community. Check out two Tesla electric cars, presented by Sustainable Blacksburg, and other electric vehicles including e-bikes from Active E-Bikes.

Apple Ridge Farm will offer tours throughout the day to experience the E-base USA: Blue Ridge, an off-grid solar and wind-powered classroom, housed in a 1917 boxcar donated by the National Railway Historical Society. There will be a fascinating nature walk and a kid zone for children with crafts and activities. SustainFloyd’s Solar Voltzwagon, a solar-powered wagon that provides electricity for many local events, will be on hand for visitors to see.

Plenty! will offer a menu of local foods to purchase for both the morning and lunch. Red Rooster coffee will be there and Cocoa Mia will cool off visitors with yummy ice pops. Many vendors and exhibitors such as Omnibuild General Contractors, Waterfurnace International, Appalachian Power Company and Solshine Energy Alternatives will answer questions.

On site this year will be a Tiny House Tour and presentation from Floyd Tiny House Innovators. You’ll meet local tiny home builders, get tours of their hand-crafted creations, and participate in live Q&A discussions with nationally recognized industry leaders.

Admission is $5.00 per person and $10.00 per family. Tickets may be purchased that day at the entrance.

Floyd Energy Fest will be held rain or shine.

Together we can find ways to develop the financial and ecological health of our community for the well-being of all citizens of Floyd County. But we also join with other communities throughout the region and around the globe to model new ways of living on, working in, and caring for the world around us.
