Description:
The Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech wraps up their online HomeStage Series with Manual Cinema's "A Christmas Carol" on Friday, December 11, 2020 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 4:00 pm.

Experience an unforgettable take on the most famous holiday tale of all time, told through the colorful and creative lens of innovative puppet company Manual Cinema. The Moss Arts Center is co-commissioning Manual Cinema's "Christmas Carol", a livestreaming adaptation of Charles Dickens' holiday classic created specifically for the 2020 holiday season. In signature Manual Cinema fashion, hundreds of paper puppets, miniatures, and silhouettes come together with a live original score to imaginatively reinvent this cherished holiday classic.

An avowed holiday skeptic, Aunt Trudy has been recruited to channel her late husband Joe's famous Christmas cheer. From the isolation of her studio apartment, she reconstructs his annual Christmas Carol puppet show—over a Zoom call while the family celebrates Christmas Eve confined apart. But as Trudy becomes more absorbed in her own version of the story, the puppets take on a life of their own, and the family's call transforms into a stunning cinematic adaptation of Dickens' classic ghost story.

The cost is $15.00 for general admission and free for Virginia Tech students.

The HomeStage Series is a special series of events featuring notable artists live from their homes and studios. Not another livestream or pre-recorded performance that’s widely available to everyone, this series is exclusive to the Moss Arts Center and designed specifically to be presented online. Get up close and personal with the artists during performances and conversations and learn more about them and their work through moderated discussions and questions and answers from the audience—all from the comfort of your own home. Grab your favorite snack, kick back, and settle in. You’re guaranteed to have a front row seat.
