Description:
The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts continues their 2017/18 Music on Mondays concert series with Virginia Tech faculty members percussionist Annie Stevens and saxophonist Kyle Hutchins on Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Squires Recital Salon.

Stevens teaches studio percussion and directs the VT percussion ensemble. She earned a D.M.A. degree from the Eastman School of Music where she studied percussion with Michael Burritt. She also holds degrees from Northwestern University (B.M.) and Rutgers University (M.M.), and spent a semester abroad at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold, Germany. She has also participated in the Aspen Music Festival, The National Orchestral Institute, and The Music Academy of West. Annie is a member of the College Music Society, and serves on the music technology committee for the Percussive Arts Society. She currently lives in Blacksburg with her husband and violinist John Irrera.

Hutchins is active as a soloist, chamber musician, improviser, and performance artist. Praised for his “formidable technique” and “enviable uniformity of tone” (The Saxophone Symposium.) Hutchins received the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from the University of Minnesota where he was a recipient of the prestigious Berneking Fellowship and student of Eugene Rousseau. He has degrees in Music Education and Saxophone Performance from the University of North Texas where he studied with Eric Nestler. Dr. Hutchins teaches saxophone at Virginia Tech and directs the VT Jazz Lab Band.
