Christiansburg Recreation Center celebrates its 20th Birthday Party on Tuesday, November 7, 2017.

Twenty years ago, the Christiansburg Recreation Center opened its doors for the first time and the Christiansburg Parks and Recreation Department is inviting the community to help celebrate this anniversary!

Admission to the Recreation Center will be free and open for non-members during the celebration, and attendees can participate in demos of several recreation classes and partake in organized sporting activities for kids up to 18 years old.

In addition there will be door prizes every 30 minutes, free cake and free commemorative T-shirts while supplies last. The cake cutting will be at 5:30 pm.

Brugh Coffee, Till and Grill and Toasted by Casey will be on-site for attendees to purchase food. Local businesses and organizations will also be present including the Montgomery County Animal Shelter.

Class Demo Schedule:
• A drawing class will be offered every 30 minutes
• 3:00 pm – Yoga
• 4:00 pm – Bingo
• 5:00 pm – Tabata
• 5:30 pm – Abs & Arms
• 6:00 pm – Zumba

Sports Activity Schedule:
3:30 pm - Knock Out Basketball
4:00 pm - Skeet Volleyball
4:30 pm - Football Quarterback Toss
5:00 pm - In the Clutch Free Throw Contest
5:30 pm - Dodgeball Mayhem
6:00 pm - Volleyball Hot Shot Toss
6:30 pm - It’s Raining 3’s

The age groups for sports are: 8 & Under, 9-12, 13-18. Prizes will be out to the winner of each age group.

The Christiansburg Recreation Center held its grand opening on Nov. 9, 1997, and it cost $5.5 million to complete. Town Council members at the time were encouraged by the town manager, Lance Terpenny, to wear sweatpants and T-shirts to the ribbon cutting ceremony. Today, the Rec Center is one of the Town of Christiansburg’s most-utilized facilities. During fiscal year 2016-2017, there were 108,659 membership scans into the center.
