Downtown Blacksburg Inc. and the Lyric Theatre present "The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, The Witch & the Wardrobe" to continue the 2017/18 Free Family Film Festival and the 5th Annual Holiday Tree Awards Ceremony on Saturday, December 23, 2017.

The fun begins at 10:00 am, with the Holiday Trees Awards Ceremony with winners being determined by the trees that received the most votes from spectators visiting the display at Kent Square over the last month. There will be certificates for 2nd and 3rd place and a certificate and coveted “Soaring Eagle Trophy for the winning tree.

The winning Gingerbread Houses will also be announced at the event. This is the 3rd annual Gingerbread House Decorating Contest to benefit Micah’s Backpack.

In addition, voters' names will be randomly picked to receive Downtown Blacksburg Gift Certificates. This is the 5th year Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. has hosted the Holiday Trees in Kent Square which has been transformed in to a Winter Wonderland. The beautifully decorated trees were provided by downtown merchants and community groups and will be on display through January 4, 2018.

The ceremony will end with the Free Family Film Fest, a gift from Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. and the Lyric Theatre.

The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe Synopsis:

Four children from the same family have to leave their town because of the bombings of WWII. A women and a professor take the children to their house. While playing a game of hide-and-seek, the youngest member of the family, Lucy, finds a wardrobe to hide in.

She travels back and back into the wardrobe and finds a place named Narnia. After going in twice, the four children go in together for the last time. They battle wolves, meet talking animals, encounter an evil white witch and meet a magnificent lion named Aslan.

The 2005 film stars Tilda Swinton, Georgie Henley and William Moseley and is rated PG.
