ContraFolk at Virginia Tech presents their February Contra Dance on Friday, February 23, 2018 in the Old Dominion Ballroom at Virginia Tech's Squires Student Center.

Schedule:
• 7:00 pm: Beginner Lesson
• 7:30-9:30 pm: Dancing

ContraFolk presents a contra dance with music by The Bouncers and calling by Phoebe Williams.

Admission is free for all students and $5.00 for everyone else.

Beginners, experts, students, locals, out-of-towners and all are welcome!

As always, our dances are gender-role free!

But what is a Contra Dance?

Contra is a form of community folk dance made up of long lines of couples dancing in sequence. A contra dancer gets to dance with their partner and everyone else in their line! Each individual dance is taught and called by a 'caller' with music provided by a live band (though occasionally we'll host techno contras).

Worried about being new?

Don't be. Prior experience is not expected! Before each evening begins, the night's caller offers a lesson for beginners or anyone looking for a refresher. In addition, contra is a walking dance, so no fancy footwork is required. Contra tradition is to change partners at the end of each dance, so bring your friends and get ready for a great time!

Please note that this dance is on a Friday, which is different from our previous Wednesday and Sunday night dances.

After the dance, join us down the street at the Cellar Restaurant & 6-Pak Store for post-dance food and mingling.

Directions:
From Interstate 81, take exit 118B onto 460. Continue to exit 5B. Go straight for 2.5 miles until you make it to downtown and take a left on College Ave. Squires Student Center will be on your right before the road turns 90 degrees to the left. After the turn, there will be a parking lot (Squires parking lot) on your left. You are free to park here after 5:00 pm.
