Alexander Black House & Cultural Center presents a Meet the Artist Reception with Christy Mackie on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
Join us for a "Meet the Artist" reception with local artist Christy Mackie, as we open her new exhibit "Explorations." The reception is part of the Art Walk organized by Downtown Blacksburg, Inc.
The inspiration for this show came largely from a workshop Christy took at the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina in 2016. The class, called “Beeswax and Bindings,” introduced participants to the art of creating small journals using beeswax, or encaustic paints, and a variety of multi-media techniques. Along with this new technique, this exhibit includes examples of her work in collage, drawing, and a first time experience with ink on ceramic tile. Christy’s encaustic work here is presented in three forms: in twelve of the 16 Squares of the Blacksburg logo, the small journals produced in the workshop, and as parts of several other pieces in the show.
The exhibit will remain on display from April 6th to May 5th. Regular hours are 10 AM to 4 PM, Tuesday to Saturday.
