Floyd Country Store presents a Bluegrass Improvisation Workshop with Abe Goorskey and Scott Patrick on Saturday, March 31, 2018.

Join us for Beginner / Intermediate Introduction to Improvisation in Bluegrass for Guitar & Mandolin with musicians Abe Goorskey and Scott Patrick.

Abe Goorskey and Scott Patrick will provide a brief introduction of how improvisation applies to bluegrass music and show you how to incorporate improvisational playing into your song repertoire. Using mandolin and guitar, Scott and Abe will discuss melodic and improvised approaches to songs and tunes, and how to use both approaches with ease.

The cost of the workshop is $25.00 per person.

Patrick & Goorsky are an acoustic bluegrass duo based in Christiansburg, VA. In 2006, musicians Scott Patrick and Abe Goorskey started playing together and learning each other's style of music. Patrick, a guitarist, and Goorskey, a guitarist and mandolin player, both play bluegrass differently.

"We started playing and had a good connection from the start," Goorskey said. "I saw it as an opportunity to learn from him because he's more of a straight-ahead bluegrass player and I was playing in more of a progressive bluegrass band at the time." The two then started arranging songs, playing shows together locally and writing pieces and have been performing ever since.
