Description:
The Christiansburg Library presents a WWII Oral History Film Presentation and Speaker titled "Roots with Wings: From the Porch to the Front Lines" on Sunday, May 13, 2018.
The Floyd Story Center at the Old Church Gallery will present a DVD compilation of WWII-era interview films “From the Front Porch to the Front Lines: Rural Virginia on a Threshold of Change”. The film series is part of a nine-year effort to collect the stories of Floyd County residents who came of age during the Great Depression and World War II. Learn about the project, the WWII-era stories, and see several of the student films.
Dr. Melinda Wagner, professor at Radford University, will speak about the project’s history and community significance.
This collection, funded in part by a 2017 public humanities grant from Virginia Humanities, includes a two-DVD set of short films and a twelve-page biographical booklet, representing a trove of oral histories (1999-2017) held in the Old Church Gallery's Floyd Story Center digital archives.
