Description:
The Floyd Center for the Arts presents the 4th Annual House and Garden Tour Floyd County on Saturday, June 30, 2018.
The House and Garden Tour Floyd County is a self-guided tour that can be started at any point and includes five distinct homes making up perhaps our most eclectic group of houses presented so far.
House Line-Up:
• The Bell House, oldest on the tour, is closest to Floyd Center for the Arts, off Route 8, east of downtown. Dating from about 1820, original building materials can be seen in several rooms. Antiques and work from many of the area’s artists and craftspeople are seen throughout the house, as are the works of both Bill and Joanne Bell.
• Five Pines, on Bethlehem Church Road, is a new house built specifically as a retirement duplex and is full of ideas for universal design and sustainable living. Its concrete and foam reinforced brick make the house energy efficient. Windows on the back look across meadows toward Buffalo Mountain. Flowers and vegetables are planted in terraced areas behind the house.
• Fiddlesticks Farmhouse, on Huckleberry Ridge Road, is a totally rebuilt home, dating from 1890. Beautiful grounds offer wildflowers, walking trails, and a gazebo for gazing toward Buffalo Mountain. An enormous second-floor library is often the scene of English teas and features splendid stained glass windows.
• Sugar Hill Farm is reached down a long drive from Rte. 615 (Christiansburg Pike). At the end, a vision of Victorian splendor emerges: a house of many levels and materials, stained glass window transoms, balconies, quirky windows, and roofs that defy description. The interior features elaborately carved wood decorations, antique and vintage furniture, and views of the Little River.
• The Flynt home, some 20 miles south of Floyd, is a modern version of an Arts and Crafts house, standing on a rise overlooking Buffalo Mountain. Many kinds of antiques, tribal rugs, rare gardening books, timber framing and mantels, blend with custom furniture, lighting and accessories. There is a beautiful view over an orchard of vintage cider apples. Many gardens surround the house.
Tickets are $30.00 per person and include a gourmet box lunch from a local caterer.
Tickets can be purchase in person at The Floyd Center for the Arts, online or at each individual house on the day of the event.
