Description:
Montgomery Museum & Lewis Miller Art Center presents the Three Photographers Artist Reception featuring Riley Chan, Jean Galloway and Matt Gentry on Thursday, September 6, 2018.

Riley Chan has been into shooting photography for more than 18 years now and his GAS (Gear Acquition Syndrome) has allowed him to accumulate a sizable collection of light gathering and recording devices as well as a whole hosts of different gadgets for such indulgence. For this show. Riley chooses shapes and shadows in dawn, dusk or through photographic trickery. Some of these photographs give a sense of darkness and foreboding while others convey the beauty of the scenery with people “in the way".

Jean Galloway (a member of the Museum Board) has spent many years in the pursuit of art, but only in recent years has she turned to photography as an art medium. She spends her time searching for the light, the color and the beauty. “Several years ago I was inspired by my brother. a professional photographer, to begin learning photography and thinking I would have photos to use as painting inspiration. My collection of photos has grown and grown and I find I love photography as much as painting."

Matt Gentry is a Blacksburg citizen, artist and photographer. His photographs have been published world-wide via the Roanoke Times and the Associated Press. This exhibit features photographs made with a point and shoot camera along the Roanoke Appalachian Trail Clubs' portion of the famous footpath through the New River and Roanoke Valleys in July of 2017. The journey covered about 150 miles over two weeks. Gentry had already completed a three decades long section hike of the entire Appalachian Trail in 2014. He continues his evolvement With the trail community by volunteering and co-maintaining a 8.5 mile section of the trail in Giles County.

The exhibit will be on display at the museum from September through October 2018.

Admission is free and all are welcome.
