Description:
The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts kicks off their 2018/2019 Music on Mondays concert series with Visiting Artists Flutist Don Bailey and Pianist Dianne Frazer on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Squires Recital Salon.
New York flutist Don Bailey has recorded for Summit, Genuin, Parnassus, and Albany Records. In its review of his debut CD Voyage, American Record Guide praised his “impeccably controlled sound… full of artful colors and nuances… exceptional attention to detail… unfailing precision”.
A native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Don began his career in Dallas, Texas. He is a former university professor, board member of both the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and the New York Flute Club, and past president of the Texas Flute Society and the Louisiana Flute Society. He has performed at festivals in Aspen, Colorado, and Spoleto, Italy, among others, and at several National Flute Association conventions.
He is director and flutist of Voyage Unlimited, Inc., a New York not-for-profit organization committed to the performance, recording, and publication of new and standard chamber music for flute. As solo flutist with Classical Quintessence aboard the Cunard cruise ship Vistafjord, he performed with Polish pianist/composer Adam Manijak, who has become an integral part of the Voyage Unlimited mission.
Don performs with collaborative pianists Donald Sulzen of Munich and Dianne Frazer of New York City, and with the Attacca String Quartet. He has performed at Munich’s Richard Strauss Conservatory, Lincoln Center, Columbia Artists Management (CAMI) Hall, among others, and live for WNYC radio at Symphony Space. He performed on the American Landmark Festival series with pianist Leslie Jones, and reaching out to an even wider audience, he performed in a Manhattan showcase of “world music” blending Afro Cuban, Brazilian, Spanish, Italian and Columbian styles with composer, film-scorer and guitarist Christopher Caliendo of Los Angeles. Other performances include those with the Aspen Festival Orchestra, the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, the Dallas Bach Orchestra, the Shreveport Symphony, and Voices of Change.

http://www.donbailey.net/Dianne Frazer is recognized globally as a premiere collaborative pianist. Known for her wit and style on and off stage, she “exudes an energy and an excitement that is both irresistible and endearing.” She has performed with a “who’s who” of international artists, and has performed in Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and Merkin Hall. According to Branford Marsalis, “Dianne is one bad-ass pianist!”
Dianne is on the faculty at Louisiana State University, is a principal pianist for the National Flute Association, International Society of Bassists, the MTNA Southern Division, the Florida Flute Association, and has been a pianist at the Oberstdorf Music Festival in Germany, World Bass Festival in Poland, ISI Florence in Italy, Bradetich International Double Bass Competition, International Hornists Society, International Trumpet Guild, North American Saxophone Alliance, International Clarinet Association, International Tuba Euphonium conventions, and numerous state and regional festivals. Dianne holds two performance degrees, was a two-time Fischoff finalist, and was an adjudicator for the prestigious Dranoff International Two Piano Competition.
Touring with individual artists is a big part of Ms. Frazer’s schedule, which is a direct byproduct of the many conventions and festivals she plays. She tours regularly with flutist, Jill Felber, and enjoys stateside performances with English flutist, Ian Clarke, as well as with her own cherished LSU colleagues. When off the road, she is Acting Principal Pianist with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, is rehearsal pianist for the Baton Rouge Symphony Chorus, and loves it when she is asked to provide music at her church. Her passion for making music with other musicians is almost equal to her passion for creating strong and lasting friendships, and this makes for a very gratifying and balanced life.
