Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts presents Poe's Shadows: An Immersive Theatrical Installation starting on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 through Sunday, November 4, 2018 at The Cube inside the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech.

• October 31st: 10:00 am - 8:30 pm
• November 1st: 10:00 am - 8:30 pm

• November 3rd: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
• November 4th: 12:00-4:00 pm

“Poe’s Shadows” uses the 360-degree cyclorama and spatial audio capabilities of the Cube, a state-of-the-art theater and high-tech experimental space. Drawing from two of Poe’s best known works, “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven,” the installation explores what happens when literary texts are lifted from the page to the stage and then reimagined through the use of new technology.

Audience members will hear recordings of the texts performed by Virginia Tech students (selections curated and directed by theatre faculty members Amanda Nelson and Natasha Staley, with English faculty member Ashley Reed). Virtual shadow puppets will be projected onto the cyclorama (designed by visual arts faculty member Meaghan Dee). Spatial sound, designed and engineered by MFA in Theatre student Tanner Upthegrove (under the guidance of music faculty member Charles Nichols), will emanate through the space, creating a full immersive experience for audience members.

Entry into the installation is every 15 minutes on the hour.

All events are free and open to the public. No ticket is required. This experience contains mature content and themes.
