ContraFolk at Virginia Tech presents ContraFolk's March Techno Contra Dance on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Old Dominion Ballroom within the Squires Student Center on the campus of Virginia Tech.

Schedule:
• 7:00 pm: Beginner Lesson
• 7:30 pm: Dance begins

Enjoy DJ music by DJ Beats and Tea and caller Emily Abel.

Beginners, experts, students, locals, out-of-towners and all are welcome. As always, our dances are gender-role free.

Admission is free for all students and $5.00 suggested donation for the general public.

Contra is a form of community folk dance made up of long lines of couples dancing in sequence. A contra dancer gets to dance with their partner and everyone else in their line! Each individual dance is taught and called by a 'caller' with music provided by a live band (though occasionally we'll host techno contras). Still confused? Check out our Facebook page, look it up on Youtube or just show up at one of our events!

Worried about being new? Don't be. Prior experience is not expected! Before each evening begins, the night's caller offers a lesson for beginners or anyone looking for a refresher. In addition, contra is a walking dance, so no fancy footwork is required. Contra tradition is to change partners at the end of each dance, so bring your friends and get ready for a great time!

The Old Dominion Ballroom is located at 290 College Avenue in Blacksburg, VA on the campus of Virginia Tech.

Directions:
From Interstate 81, take exit 118B onto 460. Continue to exit 5B. Go straight for 2.5 miles until you make it to downtown and take a left on College Ave. Squires Student Center will be on your right before the road turns 90 degrees to the left. After the turn, there will be a parking lot (Squires parking lot) on your left. You are free to park here after 5:00 pm.
