Description:
Raymond F. Ratcliffe Memorial Transportation Museum continues the Ratcliffe Lessons & Legacies Series with the talk "Battle of Cloyd's Mountain" on Sunday, April 28, 2019.

The Ratcliffe Transportation Museum will host local historian Mary Catherine Stout to talk about the Battle of Cloyd’s Mountain that occurred on the farm where she currently resides. This will be in advance of the reenactment of the battle that will be staged on May 4 & 5th on and near the farm at the base of Cloyd’s Mountain.

Everyone is invited to come learn about this Civil War battle fought in Pulaski County along Back Creek.

Facts About Battle of Cloyd's Mountain:
• The most significant battle in Southwest Virginia, fought in Pulaski County
• Took place May 9, 1864, between Union forces under General George Crook and Confederate forces under General Albert Jenkins
• Future Presidents Rutherford B. Hayes and William McKinley both fought at Cloyd’s Mountain
• After an hour of some of the most intense fighting of the Civil War, Union forces prevailed and the Confederates withdrew

Displays at the Ratclife will feature artifacts from the battle found on the farm. Also on display will be replica uniforms from the Union and Confederate Armies. Join us at the Ratcliffe in preparation for the reenactment.

The Ratcliffe Memorial Transportation Museum is located at 51 Commerce Street in Pulaski, VA.
