The Radford University College of Visual & Performing Arts presents the 15th IBLA Grand Prize Performance Concert at Radford University on Friday, April 26, 2019 at Performance Hall located within the Covington Center on the campus of Radford University.
Each year the Italian city of Ragusa-Ibla hosts the IBLA Grand Prize World Music Competition. The 28-year-old competition showcases some of the world’s best musicians competing for a spot to tour with other IBLA winners throughout the United States. Radford University has the unique distinction of kicking off that tour with a free concert featuring winners of the Grand Prize World Music Competition.
This year the concert will feature performers Anchie Donn, Corrado Neri, Edoardo Fulginei, Shinobu Otake, Eduardo Crespo, Frederico Ercoli, Tamara Licheli, Silvia Tessari and Mariana Preda.
The original competition was founded at Radford University in 1981 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Hungarian composer Bela Bartók's birth. After being renamed several times along with a change in venue from Virginia to Italy, the annual competition continues as the “IBLA Grand Prize” in Ragusa-IBLA, Sicily.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
The IBLA Grand Prize Performance Tour will conclude at New York City’s Carnegie Hall where tickets are selling for $300.00 each. However, those attending the Radford University performance will get to see and interact with these supremely talented musicians for free.
