The Global Change Center at Virginia Tech presents Backyard Biodiversity Bonanza on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Glade Road Growing.
Learn about how you can promote biodiversity conservation in your own backyard! Three Virginia Tech graduate students will be sharing information on how to steward a beneficial habitat for native birds, bees and plants in the New River Valley.

• Native Bee Collection will be on display and information on pollinator conversation and building bee houses
• Bird House building plans and advice & tips for using binocolaurs
• Bird Coloring Sheet for Kids
• "Conservation Landscaping"
• Information on Planting and Growing Native Plants
• Urban or Planter Gardening for those without a Yard
• Monarch Butterfly Conservation
• Citizen Science Opportunities
• Learn How to Attract Breeding Birds to your Yard
• Nature Walk
Attendees will be able to choose from a variety of free native plants (or their seeds) that can be planted in your backyard. There will also be free sunflower starts for participants to take home as well while supplies last.
Join the scientists for a nature walk at 3:00 pm along the paths at Heritage Park which is across the street. Anyone and everyone are welcome to join. We will be identifying birds, insects, and plants (both native and non-native) along the way. Participants can continue to practice using binoculars and identifying birds, learn about plants and how to ID them, as well as insects and pollinators alike.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
