Description:
Science on Tap - New River Valley presents "Millipedes of Virginia" on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Rising Silo Brewery in Blacksburg, VA.
Entomologist Derek Hennen will show us some of the colorful and diverse millipedes that people may find around southwestern Virginia. If the weather cooperates, we may do a quick millipede hunt around the brewery grounds, farm, or Heritage Trail. Feel free to bring millipedes (or other arthropods) you have questions about!
And as a bonus, student researchers from Montgomery County High School will give quick flash talks about their research, honored with membership in Sigma Xi, the Scientific Honor Society, by Virginia Tech's chapter.
Be prepared for some epic trivia to start things off.
Admission is free and open to the public. Food and drink are on your own.
Science On Tap New River Valley community celebrates scientific thought and explores new discoveries through monthly events with a featured researcher. We kick off the event with games, comedy, or other fun things. Then, an invited guest researcher demos their research. And then we'll discuss, ask questions, learn together, and mingle.
