The Cellar presents Black Twig Pickers in concert on Saturday, October 12, 2019.

The Black Twig Pickers return to The Cellar for the first time in four years when the band ended a monthly residency that lasted almost a decade.

Banjos and fiddles, boards and bones in hand, the Black Twig Pickers dove into a living tradition of old-time music that surrounds their homes in Southwest Virginia and never looked back. Acoustic music, played acoustically. Enjoy old-time stringband music from Black Twig Pickers, known for a forward-leaning take on traditional sounds, tours of the USA and Europe and a string of albums on Thrill Jockey, VHF and other labels.

Both scholars of the regional sounds and advocates of an ecstatic and highly personal approach to the music, the Twigs hold down local dance and bar gigs, play all manner of celebrations and every so often, hit the road.
