Virginia Tech presents the first annual Indigenous Peoples Day Awareness Celebration on Monday, October 14, 2019 on the Virginia Tech Drillfield.
Join Virginia Tech’s American Indian and Indigenous community for a ceremonial event commemorating our university’s first official acknowledgment of Indigenous Peoples Day. Celebrate the resilience and integrity of Indigenous People and cultures around the world.
Highlights include:
• Land Acknowledgement and remarks by VT Provost Cyril Clarke
• Intertribal Drum Group
• Indigenous People Awareness Walk
• Blessing and statement of reclamation by Chief Kenneth Branham of the Monacan Indian Nation
• 1st 100 attendees will get a free t-shirt commemorating the day
Admission is free and all are welcome.
In case of rain, the event will be moved to Burruss Auditorium on the campus of Virginia Tech.
