Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. presents the 2019 Downtown Blacksburg Trick or Treat on Friday, November 1, 2019.
UPDATE: Due to expected inclement weather, New Life and the Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. have postponed all downtown Blacksburg events until Friday, November 1st at the same times.
Schedule:
• 4:00-6:00 pm: Trick or Treat and Games
• 5:30 pm: Children's Costume Contest for Ages 12 & Under on the Lyric Stage
Celebrate Halloween in downtown Blacksburg, VA! The merchants of downtown Blacksburg and the Blacksburg Police Department are ready to welcome you for a safe and happy Halloween.
Trick or treat at participating merchants, participate in the Costume Contest and enjoy Halloween activities along College Avenue which will be closed to traffic during the event.
College Avenue Events include:
* Halloween games and treats from Blacksburg Parks & Rec Dept
• Halloween treats with Blacksburg Police Department
• Treats from In Balance Yoga
• Virginia Tech Rescue Squad Ambulance on Display with Treats
• Treats from Historic Smithfield Plantation
This year's Halloween Costume Contest at The Lyric will be hosted by fireman Wayne Garst with special guest judges, Virginia Tech therapy dogs Moose and Derek.
The Halloween Costume Contest Age Categories:
• 0-3 Years
• 4-6 Years
• 7-9 Years
• 10-12 Years
• Themed Group Costume
Additional Downtown Activities:
• Haunted House at The Creekmore Law Firm
• New Life's Annual Fall Festival
Admission is free and all are welcome.
Several of the downtown businesses will be participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project offering non-candy treats as an option this year. The Teal Pumpkin Project raises awareness of food allergies and promoting inclusion of all trick-or-treaters throughout the Halloween season. To see the full list of participants, visit:

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will once again be working with the police to provide additional safety during the Trick or Treat session. Extra police officers will also be located downtown to assist in traffic calming and safe crossing.
