Description:
The Itraab Arabic Music Ensemble performs their end of semester concert on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at the Moss Arts Center at Virginia Tech.
Join us for Itraab's end-of-semester performance featuring guest performers Anne Rasmussen (`ud) and Lillie Gordon (violin). This semester's program highlights instrumental and vocal works from Lebanon, including beloved favorites made famous by Fairouz, Sabah, and Ziyad Rahbani.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
Founded in 2014 as a project of The Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, the Itraab Ensemble (whose name means "creating enchantment through music") is a community group that is open to participation for all. Under the direction of Anne Elise Thomas, ethnomusicologist, the ensemble learns musical pieces from various parts of the Arab world, for performance on percussion, voice, strings (violin, viola, cello, bass) and Arabic instruments. Instruments are provided for use. Musical experience is a plus, but not necessary.
Young people (ages 10 and up) are welcome to participate with an adult.
