Description:
The Virginia Tech School of Performing Arts presents An Evening with Artist & Musician Victoria Hanna on Monday, March 2, 2020 at Squires Recital Salon on the campus of Virginia Tech.
Israeli singer-songwriter Victoria Hanna will perform with multi-instrumentalist and composer Gershon Waiserfirer in an evening concert.
Defying definition, the inspired work of Victoria Hanna depicts her ongoing experimentation with the vocal and conceptual boundaries of language. This vocal artist from Israel enacts in her work a unique presentation of sacred Hebrew texts, prayers and spirituals, in an entirely modern context, integrating theatre, music, spoken word and video.
The daughter of an Egyptian father, who was an Orthodox rabbi steeped in the world of Hebrew, and a Persian mother, Hanna has created her own sound by blending Middle Eastern music and rhythms with rap, hip-hop, and the inspiration of Hebrew and religious texts. Her 2015 video single, a song called "Aleph Bet," went viral on YouTube.
The "freshest, edgiest, weirdest artist on the Israeli airwaves today". - Public Radio International (PRI)
