Downtown Blacksburg, Inc. presents Black Lives Matter Giving Friday for the Christiansburg Institute on Friday, June 19, 2020.

Downtown Blacksburg Inc. (DBI) stands in solidarity with the #BlackLivesMatter (#BLM) movement that is sweeping the country. We stand together with county leadership in support of racial equality and with the community to raise and elevate oppressed voices. DBI embraces and encourages dialogues and community conversations on race in an effort to foster better race relations in our community.

In this spirit and call to action, DBI has created a fundraiser designed to support local business and contribute to a great and very timely cause. A percentage of the proceeds made by participating businesses will be donated to the Christiansburg Institute, Inc.

Participating Businesses:
• Cabo Fish Taco: Donate 10% of proceeds made day-of
• Cafe de Bangkok: Donate 15% of proceeds made day-of
• Capone's Jewelry: Donate 100% revenue of services performed such as jewelry cleanings, will donate 50% of other repairs that can be done the same day and 25% donation on purchases day-of
• Champs Sportsbar and Cafe: Donate 10% of proceeds made day-of
• Fringe Benefit: Donate 10% of proceeds made day-of
• Glade Road Growing: Donate 20% of proceeds made day-of
• Gourmet Pantry: Donate 20% of all sales of cheese and/or crackers made day-of
• Inside Out Salon: Donate 20% of proceeds made day-of
• Lia's Hairstyling: Donate 30% of proceeds made day-of
• Main Street Pharmacy: Donate 20% of proceeds made day-of
• Mandell Real Estate: Real Estate Agent Joe Racek to donate 20% of proceeds for new clients who contact him at MRE on the day-of; Portion of his sales for the month of June will be donated as well
• New River Art & Fiber: Donate 100% of its net proceeds made day-of
• Next Door Bake Shop: Donate 15% of proceeds made day-of
• Sugar Magnolia: Donate 15% of total proceeds made day-of

Christiansburg Institute (CI, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) cultural heritage and historic preservation non-profit located in Christiansburg, Virginia.

The Christiansburg Industrial Institute (CII) educated African American students in the New River Valley and beyond for 100 years (1866-1966). The Christiansburg Institute was the first high school in Southwest Virginia to educate the formerly enslaved including residents in the New River Valley, Southwest Virginia, and beyond. Christiansburg Institute, Inc. (CI, Inc). takes seriously our ancestral duty to honor Christiansburg Institute's rich tradition of education and learning, community reconciliation and civic engagement in these Appalachian mountains.

Our mission to preserve and promote the historic Christiansburg Industrial Institute through enacting its legacies of education, service, and excellence. Christiansburg Industrial Institute, Inc. was created by the Christiansburg Institute Alumni Association (CIAA) in 1996.
