The Wilderness Road Regional Museum celebrates the 2020 Mary Draper Ingles Weekend with Outdoor Living Historians on Saturday, July 25, 2020 and Sunday, July 26, 2020.

The Wilderness Road Regional Museum will have living historians on site presenting Colonial and Native American history with Monacans from Natural Bridge. A blacksmith workshop has already sold out, but may be observed if happening during the tour.

The historians will be outside however museum representatives are asking for everyone interested in visiting to prearrange tour times and follow mask and social distancing recommendations.

Tour times will be on the half hour on Saturday from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm and on Sunday from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm.

The museum typically encourages folks to stop by during posted hours, but for this weekend, prearranged times must be scheduled for everyone's safety.

The event is free however donations are always appreciated during visits to the museum.

In 2017 the Virginia General Assembly honored Mary Draper Ingles by designating the last Saturday in July as her special day. The distinction has continued to increase interest in the story of Mary’s capture and escape from a Shawnee hunting party during the French and Indian War. Over the years, her return home by navigating rivers and living off the land has been the subject of numerous books, outdoor dramas and several movies. She is also widely honored through the states of West Virginia and Kentucky.
