Description:
As part of Blacksburg Sustainability Week 2020, the New River Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society presents Fall is for Planting Native Plant Sale on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the Price House Nature Center.

Adding native plants to your landscape can help restore some of the habitat loss that is driving extinctions of native wildlife. Native plants provide shelter and food for wildlife, promote biodiversity and require less resources because they are adapted to the climate and soil conditions where they naturally occur.

This plant sale will provide revenue to further the mission of the Virginia Native Plant Society which is the "protection and preservation of the native plants of Virginia and their habitats". The funds will be used to provide educational grants for local youth to install native plant gardens in our community.

An inventory of plants can be found at: http://sustainableblacksburgva.org/vnps/.

Payments will ONLY be accepted through PayPal or by check.

Masks are required to attend this event.

Sustainability Week, started in 2006, is a week long series of events hosted by a longstanding partnership between the Town of Blacksburg, Virginia Tech, and Sustainable Blacksburg. The partnership was formed to bring campus and community together to build a more sustainable and resilient community. Sustainability Week received the 2016 Governor’s Environmental Excellence Award.

Because of the COVID19 pandemic, most of the Sustainability Week events will be virtual and the handful of in-person events will be outdoors with physical distancing.

All events are free.

This will be the first in a series of programs and projects offered throughout the year, a new approach, being called “Sustainability through the Seasons.” This new approach will enable the partners to engage campus and the community with events and programming better suited for the seasons, such as tree plantings (fall) and the City Nature Challenge (spring).
