Phil Wiggins and Blues House Party (Band)

Biography:

Phil Wiggins and Blues House Party, led by blues harmonica wizard Phil Wiggins, perpetuates the Piedmont style of blues music and dance, a gentle and melodic blues style of the mid-Atlantic region. A native of the Washington, D.C. area, Wiggins has performed alongside a who’s who of blues performers including John Cephas, Sunnyland Slim, and Robert Belfour. Wiggin’s harmonica style includes complex syncopated patterns, breath-control and rhythm, stylistic virtuosity and fiery solo runs.

He is a two time winner of the prestigious WC Handy award. Regularly ranked among the world’s top harmonica players in both Reader and Critics polls by Living Blues magazine, he is active as musician, teacher and music director. He is only the third harmonica player to receive the lifetime honor of an NEA National Heritage Fellowship. Today he is the only living player of the instrument to hold the prestigious honor of being a "Master of Traditional Arts".

With House Party he is joined by Rick Franklin (guitar and vocals), Marcus Moore (fiddle) and Junious Brickhouse (dance). In 2017, Wiggins received the National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, America’s highest award for traditional artists.
