Atoka Chase (Band)
Biography:
Atoka Chase is an alt-folk outfit from Northern Virginia. Founded by Virginia natives Jared Hall Garland and Maya Cole Renfro in the winter of 2012, the band is known for it’s raw, energetic, stripped-down live shows. Garland sings with a raspy growl, plays banjo, guitar, and a homemade suitcase drum.
Renfro sings with a powerful, melodic, bluesy voice, accompanied by her guitar and hybrid violin/fiddle style. Both musicians take separate control of the movement of their live performances, but always share the space in a captivating and creative manner. Conceived with the notion of performing up-beat folk, the duo quickly brought in a much darker, ambient feel to their music.
While best known as a duo, they often perform with several other musicians playing a range of instruments, including trumpet, bass, drums, and clarinet.
