Cabin Days at Ingles Farm with Author Eleanor Lahr:

Date: June 17, 2012
Time: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Venue: Ingles Farm
Description: Visit Ingles Farm! This working farm will be open to the public on special days from 10 am until 3 pm. Come and explore the cabin of William and Mary Draper Ingles, learn about current preservation efforts, and trace the history of Ingles Ferry and its importance in history. Additionally, Author Eleanor Lahr will be on hand. Eleanor wrote the book, "Angels Along the River".

When Eleanor Lahr read Follow the River, a novel by James Alexander Thom and based on the true experiences of Mary Draper Ingles, it changed her life. Mary had been captured by Shawnee Indians in 1755 and carried 500+ miles away from her home. According to http://www.AngelsAlongtheRiver.com Eleanor, and others who would join her along the way, felt inexplicably compelled to carry Mary’s courageous story from Kentucky to Virginia. In 1987, she hiked for 43 days along the Ohio, Kanawha and New rivers following the same route that Mary Ingles was required to make to return to her family in Virginia after escaping from the Indians.

Come and meet Eleanor and let her share her experience of walking the walk that Mary Ingles took and from this experience she developed a keen insight into the strength of courage and the indomitable character that Mary Draper Ingles had in 1755 to perform this feat. Ms. Lahr will be present and participate in the activities of Cabin Days at Ingles Farm on both Saturday and Sunday, June 16th and 17th.

History interpreters will also be on hand and performing demonstrations of typical farm life. Also, see heirloom animals. There is no admission charge and children are welcome.
