Description: New River Fiber Co. presents the three-day skills builder class Knitting starting on Sunday, October 15, 2017 as well as on Sunday, October 22 and October 29, 2017 meeting from 2-4 pm for each class period.

This series builds upon your basic knitting skills, helping you to establish a broader foundation of knowledge and skills. Take your knitting to the next level! You will gain the confidence you need to tackle more complicated patterns and the skillset to create more professional looking handknits.

Session 1: Getting Started
• Essential tools to maximize success
• Selecting a knitting pattern
• Choosing yarns
• What's the fuss about gauge?
• Cast on options and techniques

Session 2: Work in Progress (WIP)
• Understanding a knitting pattern and knitting charts
• How to "read" your knitting
• Fixing common mistakes including dropped stitches and holes
• Joining new yarn and how to carry yarn up the side
• Lifelines

Session 3: Finishing
• Edgings and buttonholes
• Basic bind offs and beyond
• Weaving in ends
• Blocking techniques

The level of the class is Advanced Beginner and the instructor is Christy Savage.

Materials Required:
Worsted weight yarn, US #8 needles, fixed and locking stitch markers, waste yarn or holder, crochet hook

There is some homework prior to the first class.
