The Folk 'n' Roll Christmas Tour presents its Christiansburg Concert featuring the Fritz Schindler Band at The Celtic Hall, in the Old Main Street Baptist Church on Saturday, December 9, 2017. It's the Folk 'n' Roll Christmas Tour! A fantastic, affordable concert for you to celebrate the holidays with family and friends. Enjoy music from the Fritz Schindler Band with special guests Retro Candy from Raleigh, North Carolina. These delightfully talented bands will take you on a creative holiday folk-rock music journey and help get you in the Christmas spirit! Now in its third year, the Folk 'n' Roll Christmas Tour is great for everyone from 4 years old to 94. Fritz Schindler is a whirlwind of musical enthusiasm. His energetic live shows combine him playing a vast array of traditional Appalachian instruments—mandolin, guitar, hammered dulcimer, bouzouki, banjo, percussion—along with his versatile singing voice and occasionally a few friends. Frequently added into the mix are live-looping and layering techniques, combined together to make a unique and spell-binding experience we like to call Contagious Folk ‘n’ Roll. Over the years, Fritz has shared the stage with such notable acts as Hawk Nelson, The Vespers, Raymond & Ruth McLain, The New Coon Creek Girls, Nevertheless, BlueTree, Ilia, The Afters, and 7eventh Time Down. In 2014 Fritz began touring with a full backing band, playing concerts, churches, and festivals in Tennessee, West Virginia, and his home states of Virginia and Kentucky. In 2015, Fritz hit the road again with his talented backing band, The Saucy Fellows, as well as playing a few solo shows, both featuring more instrumental songs, live-looping, and as always, the signature smile and warm enthusiasm he brings to every stage. Take a trip to the past, let your hair down, have a sweet time. Retro Candy is a funky indie rock band from Raleigh, North Carolina with a smooth blend of modern and nostalgic sounds. Jade’s soothing voice captivates the ears of her listeners while her rhythm guitar keeps a steady pace for the band. Brennan, the other lead singer, has a stronger, rougher sound to contrast Jade’s. His intricate guitar playing and dynamic personality intrigue the ears and eyes of any audience. Chris adds a unique twist to a classic rock band by tickling the keys on a piano and adding another voice for more powerful and complicated harmonies. Oren plays bass and can sing even lower than his guitar. His extremely wide singing range allows him to hit perfect harmonies with the other band members. Marc, the drummer, keeps the band tight with his steady hands and ear for rhythm. While these are the primary roles for the band, each member is versatile. They can and often do switch instruments and singing roles on stage for everyone’s enjoyment. Jade, Brennan, and Chris started performing in 2016 at NC State University in Raleigh. Oren and Marc joined in 2017 for the release of Retro Candy’s first self-titled EP. Retro Candy continues to write music and rock out around North Carolina.
