Blacksburg Newcomers Club presents their February Meeting with New River Health District Epidemiologist on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Blacksburg, VA. Epidemiology literally means “the study of what is upon the people.” Is it the H1N1 virus, this year’s flu strain, norovirus, or maybe some new exotic disease? Find out just what is “upon the people” when Jason Deese, MPH, District Epidemiologist for the New River Health District speaks to the Blacksburg Newcomers Club. Accompanying Mr. Deese will be Pam Ray, the Population Health Coordinator. Our Community Outreach speakers will be Roy Kirkpatrick of the Blacksburg Interfaith Food Pantry and Sheryl Helm from the Head Start New River Valley. Donations of non-perishable food for the Interfaith Food Pantry and goldfish crackers, peanut butter, and individually wrapped snack foods like granola bars, fruit snacks for Head Start will be greatly appreciated. Other items that would benefit Head Start include wipes, pull-ups sizes 4 and 5, and tissues. There is no cost for guests attending the meeting. Membership dues are $25.00 a year and include participation in interest groups. Free babysitting is available for pre-school children ages 6 months and older. Weather Policy: Meetings will be cancelled if Montgomery County Public Schools have a two hour delay or schools are closed.
