Learn at Lunch: Migrating Insects on the Blue Ridge Parkway:

Date: June 20, 2018
Time: 12:00 - 1:00 PM
Venue: Hahn Horticulture Garden (Virginia Tech)
Description: The Hahn Horticulture Garden at Virginia Tech continues their Learn at Lunch series with "Migrating Insects on the Blue Ridge Parkway" on Wednesday, June 20, 2018.

Join us to learn about migrating insects on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Clyde Kessler began watching insects heading south in the fall after an experience at his regular hawk-watch site on the Blue Ridge Parkway with thousands of dragonflies going by for hours. Though not lucky enough to experience this very large number of migrants at one time again, he and Bruce Grimes have spent many years now keeping watch for migrating insects focused on butterflies and dragonflies at the hawk-watch site.

They will show pictures of the species encountered and a few others known to migrate, giving identification tips, while recounting experiences and new research findings on insect migration.

Admission is free and all are welcome.

All talks meet at the Peggy Lee Hahn Garden Pavilion.

The talk is rain or shine. The talk will move indoors if heavy rain or storms.

Parking pass required for our visitor lot. A pass can be picked up at the Pavilion the day of the talk at no cost.
