Description: Blacksburg's Kodokan Aikido Dojo presents Basics of Aikido Class on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at War Memorial Gym Dance Room on the campus of Virginia Tech.

What is Aikido? Aikido is a Japanese martial art focused on channeling an opponent's energy safely and efficiently. Join us for a special class designed for participants to practice basic concepts in Aikido -- safely avoiding an attack and responding properly when tripped or thrown.

No martial arts experience necessary.

You only need three things for this class: a baggy shirt, long athletic/stretchy pants and a water bottle. See you on the mat!

Aikido is known as the art of peace, and a practitioner strives to protect oneself, others, and even the opponent by controlling the three centers of the encounter. We learn the art of taking balance, which doesn't require strength but relies on flexibility and precise movement. Kodokan Aikido at Virginia Tech is member of the Aikikai Foundation, as a part of Kodokan Aikido, Okazaki Dojo under Tadamitsu Tanaka Shihan, 7th Dan.
