Description: Let's Code Blacksburg presents a Hacker 101 Workshop - Intro to Cyber Security and Hacker Networking Tools on Thursday, October 11, 2018 in the Concept Conference Room located within the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.

Before you can defend against malicious hackers, you must learn how computers and their underlying network systems work — as well as learn some of the tools of the hacker and cyber security trade.

This three hour, hands on workshop (pizza included!) is designed for ages 12 to adult and also targets high school technology educators, and will help you begin to develop your skills in the areas of:

* Kali Security Linux Command Line Navigation
* Manipulating applications and files
* POSIX command line piping and filtering
* Network scanning for other computer systems
* +File security and permissions (optional stretch goal)
* +File and communication encryption (optional stretch goal)
* For Teachers: Overview of the Virginia Cyber Range cloud training system (and free continued access)

The Concept Conference Room is located at 1880 Pratt Drive in Blacksburg, Virginia within the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.

Let’s Code Blacksburg! (LCBB) is a local technical group that has a two-fold purpose. First, we provide the opportunity for local residents to learn different programming languages and technologies at different levels (from beginner to advanced).

Secondly, Let's Code! gives people who have expertise in a particular tech field the opportunity to share their knowledge to build experience and become recognized as experts in the community.
