Christmas Open House:

Date: December 13, 2018
Time: 5:30 - 7:30 PM
Venue: Glencoe Mansion, Museum & Gallery
Description: Glencoe Mansion, Museum and Gallery will host a free Christmas Open House on Thursday, December 13, 2018 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Join us for an evening of festivities and traditions as we enjoy and explore our Christmas traditions. The event will highlight the special exhibit, “Christmas Through the Years,” which takes visitors through nearly a century and a half of holiday traditions.

Throughout the evening, visitors will enjoy the company of new and old friends and chat with interpreters who will bring to life three periods of Christmas history. The evening will feature holiday treats inspired by Christmas traditions from yesteryear. There will also be wine available for $5.00 a glass with all proceeds going to benefit the museum.

The special exhibit “Christmas Through the Years” takes off during the Civil War when holiday traditions we recognize day were just taking shape. It then jumps to the Baby Boomer Christmas of the 1950s when holiday traditions were firmly in place and, thanks to a booming economy, available to even more people. The journey through time ends with a Very “Rad” Christmas of the 1990s. The exhibit will be on display from December through January 6, 2019.

Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Glencoe Mansion is a three-in-one experience offering House Museum, History Exhibits and Art Gallery. It is located in the former home of Gen. Gabriel C. and Nannie Radford Wharton, whose unparalleled Civil War correspondence is to be published by William C. Davis and Sue Bell.
