Description: The Hahn Horticulture Garden at Virginia Tech presents the Roanoke Garden Tour on Thursday, April 4, 2019.

Join the Hahn Garden as we visit two fantastic sites in the Roanoke area. First we will visit Walter’s Greenhouse. Walter’s Greenhouse is a family-run business nestled in the mountains of the northern part of Franklin County. They offer the area’s largest selection of annuals, herbs, perennials, succulents, vegetables, air plants, and select flowering shrubs all grown on site. The Hahn Garden will be bringing an extra van to bring back any plants or items you might like to purchase on your visit.

Next we will head over to the private garden of Doug and Anne Jessie. They have carved out their 1/2 acre garden in South Roanoke from scratch over the last 17 years. The garden slopes demanded walls, terracing and massaging. Deer and mature trees added to the challenge. They have done all the work themselves. Come and enjoy the efforts, the thousands of bulbs, spring wildflowers, other spring blooming perennials, trees and shrubs, a babbling brook, sitting areas, rare plants and some quirkiness.

We will leave the Hahn Garden at 1:00 PM and take two vans to Roanoke (about an hour’s drive). We should be back at the Hahn Garden around 7:00 PM. We do not plan to stop for food, so pack a snack or light dinner if needed.

This tour is limited to 18 people. Cost is $20.00 for Friends of the Garden and $30.00 for general public. Please register by April 1, 2019 by contacting vtgarden@vt.edu or calling 540-231-5970.
