The Iranian Society of Virginia Tech will be celebrating Nowruz, the Persian New Year, on Saturday, March 23, 2019 in the Commonwealth Ballroom located within the Squires Student Center on the campus of Virginia Tech. This celebration has its roots from over 3,000 years ago, celebrating the arrival of the Spring Equinox and new beginnings. The society would like to extend a cordial invitation to students, faculty, and the general public. Celebrate a fresh start to the year and the most important holiday in the Persian Calendar! Enjoy a night of dance performances, cultural shows from different parts of Iran, stand-up comedy performed by "Tehran" and the night will end with dancing and music. Event Schedule: • 7:00 pm: Introductory and Welcome Speech • 7:30-8:00 pm: Turkish Dances • 8:00-8:45 pm: Stand-Up Comedy • 8:45-9:00 pm: Iranian Dance • 9:00-9:15 pm: President Speech and Video Clip • 9:15-9:30 pm: Persian Group Dance • 9:25-9:45 pm: Treasurer Speech and Video Clip • 9:45-10:00 pm: Solo Persian Dance • 10:00-11:00 pm: DJ and Dancing General admission tickets are $7.00.
