Virginia Tech Bike to Work Day 2019:

Date: May 16, 2019
Time: 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM
Venue: Virginia Tech
Description: The Virginia Tech Alternative Transportation Department is celebrating Bike to Work Day 2019 on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at the Hokie Bike Hub.

To celebrate those who choose to ditch their cars for their pedals, the Hokie Bike Hub will have light refreshments and giveaways.

If this is your first time biking to work, here are some tips to make everything go smoothly:

• Make sure your bicycle is in working condition. The staff at the Hokie Bike Hub can help you with this for free.

• Make sure you have the proper equipment. We strongly encourage commuters to wear helmets. However, summer biking does not require much. In an ideal situation you would have a helmet, lock, and water bottle.

• Plan your commute in advance. Take the time to pick which roads you are planning to take to campus. For new riders we suggest taking bike trails and roads with dedicated bike lanes. We have found that Google Maps does a good job of mapping out bicycle routes, but if you have questions or need help you can visit us at the Hokie Bike Hub or call us at 540-231-2116.

• Find a riding buddy! Talk to your friends and family and see if they will join you! You can also register yourself on the RIDE Solutions website (http://www.ridesolutions.org) to find someone that rides a similar route as you.

Bike to Work Day is an event that is open to the entire Virginia Tech community. Even if you cannot ride a bike to work that day, we still encourage you to stop by our office to chat and grab some food.

The Hokie Bike Hub is located at 1330 Perry Street in Blacksburg, VA on the campus of Virginia Tech.
