Description: The Summer Arts Festival wraps up their 2019 Summer Arts Festival and Friday Night Out Concert Series with music from The Rick Strickland Band on Friday, July 26, 2019 on Henderson Lawn located off of College Avenue in downtown Blacksburg, VA.

The Rick Strickland Band features the awarding winning music and showmanship of Myrtle Beach based singer, songwriters and entertainers Rick Strickland and Lesa Hudson and their arsenal of #1 beach and shag music radio hits including award winning classic hits: Something Smooth, So Do I, One Step Closer, She Can’t Fix Grits, Party Til The Break Of Dawn, Bubba White, and more recent hits Every Now And Then, I’m Hungover, When You Look At Me, Amazingly Amazing and Get Your Feet On The Floor!

But before you put them in the "beach band" category, keep in mind that their impressive original song playlist covers the gamut in musical styles including Classic R&B Soul, Classic Rock and a splash of Country, guaranteed to please audiences of all preferences! Rick & Lesa are recipients of 8 Carolina Beach Music Awards (CBMA) and have been recognized with over 60 CBMA nominations for their musical contributions to the music industry. Additionally, Lesa is a 4 time nominee in the Inspirational Country Awards held annually in Nashville, TN.

With the joint efforts of Virginia Tech's School of Performing Arts and the Town of Blacksburg, the 2019 Summer Arts Festival that features live music, art exhibits, live theatre events, classic movies and summer festivals in downtown Blacksburg, VA. This summer marks the 28th year of this cultural and entertaining festival for the Virginia Tech Campus and the New River Valley.

Admission to all events is free.

In case of rain, the concert will be moved inside to the Squires Old Dominion Ballroom located inside the Squires Student Center.

Henderson Lawn is located at the corner of Main Street and College Avenue in downtown Blacksburg, VA.

Orquesta Tropikiimba is one of few authentic Afro-Caribbean Orchestras in the Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. area. Many of the band members are from countries such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Panama, Colombia, Mexico, Dominican Republic, St. Thomas and the United States.

There's so much more to the music of the Caribbean Islands than what most people perceive. Each style is distinctly different and more exciting than the next. Tropikiimba's specialty is Afro-Latino music which is guaranteed to get people on their feet and dancing. For example: Salsa, Timba, Songo, Bolero, Danzon, Cha Cha Cha, Charanga, Rumba, Bachata, Merengue and Vallenato. The band can also play other Afro-Caribbean styles if needed for special events.
