Drone Racing at Virginia Tech presents a Drone Race on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Drone Park on the campus of Virginia Tech. Ten current members of the team will be participating in the race, but it’s also open to anyone who’d like to try their hand at drone racing and owns a drone that can transmit video at 25 milliwatts. Spectators are welcome and encouraged to see what drone racing is all about. Drone racing burst onto the U.S. sports scene around 2015 and quickly found a dedicated following, the largest league has more than 27,000 registered drone racers internationally, and pro matches are broadcast on major cable networks. The Virginia Tech Drone Park offers 36,000 square feet of flight space of latitude for their lightning-fast maneuvers around obstacles and through hairpin turns. The drone park's 85 foot high net is the tallest in the country. There’s no cost to attend the family-friendly event.
