Springhouse Community School presents a Community Conversation with Author Beth Macy and her book "Dopesick" on Monday, January 27, 2020 at The Floyd Country Store. Best-selling Roanoke author and journalist Beth Macy will talk about her book "Dopesick" and answer questions from teens about the opioid crisis. Learners in the Springhouse Science of Addiction course have been reading Macy's book, Dopesick, which traces the roots and spread of the opioid epidemic right here in southwest Virginia. We hope you can participate in this important conversation. Beth Macy is a New York Times-bestselling author of two books, "Factory Man" and "Truevine". Macy’s work as a newspaper reporter, mostly at The Roanoke Times, featured outsiders and underdogs and won more than a dozen awards. Her books reflect a deep respect for the stories of marginalized people and communities, dogged persistence in her research, and a gift for telling complicated stories in a compelling way. Her work has also been featured in Oprah magazine, PARADE, American Journalism Review, Salon, the Christian Science Monitor and "The Best Newspaper Writing" anthology. Her forthcoming book, "Dopesick", is a look at the opioid epidemic as it unfolded in three Virginia communities; it will be published in August.
