McClain's at First & Main presents Josh Marlowe in concert on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. Spend Thanksgiving Eve at McClain's while hearing some great music by Josh Marlowe. Southern Virginia native Josh Marlowe plays real country music. Plain and simple. But there's nothing plain or simple about what happens on stage. An accomplished guitarist, Josh weaves driving chords together with intricate licks. His playing comes off as a subtle foundation for a rich, baritone voice that brings to mind traditional country singers. And there's nothing put on about the twang in his voice. It's as "country" as the the winding roads, tobacco barns, and backwoods of Dry Fork, VA where he grew up. Josh's earliest memories include listening to singer-songwriter Hank Williams at his Papa's house. Though it would be years before he would start penning his own songs, he connected to the raw emotion in the music. Josh honed his skills playing at church and sitting in with local and regional bluegrass and country bands, but his taste in music is far reaching. Whether he plays a country classic, a familiar rock song, an original tune, or even an unexpected pop cover, he filters it through his own unique sensibility so that what comes out is, of course, real country music that any listener is more than likely to enjoy.
