The Blacksburg Library presents an evening with Sharyn McCrumb and Jack Hinshelwood: A Words and Music Performance, Tuesday, May 8 at 7:00 pm. Don’t miss this fabulous event!

Sharyn McCrumb and Jack Hinshelwood will combine their talents to make a memorable evening of music and storytelling in this internationally acclaimed program. Books and music CDs will be available for purchase and signing.

New York Times Best Selling author Sharyn McCrumb is an award-winning Southern writer, well known for her Appalachian novels including She Walks These Hills; The Rosewood Casket; The Ballad of Frankie Silver; and the most recently published ballad novel, The Ballad of Tom Dooley.

In 2005 she was honored as the Writer of the Year at Emory & Henry. Sharyn McCrumb won a 2006 Library of Virginia Award and AWA Book of the Year for her novel St. Dale, which was featured at the National Festival of the Book. In 2008 she was named a Virginia Woman of History for Achievement in Literature. She received the Perry F. Kendig Award for Literary Achievement in 2011
Educated at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Masters Degree in English from Virginia Tech, McCrumb was the first writer-in-residence at King College in Tennessee.

Jack Hinshelwood is a gifted musician and performer. He is the winner of several guitar contests including the Knoxville World’s Fair Guitar Championship, the Galax Fiddler’s Convention Guitar Contest and the Wayne Henderson Guitar Championship. In collaboration with Sharyn McCrumb he has recorded several ballads based on her books.
