Radford University will pay tribute to the land of the rising sun with its first Japanese Cultural Awareness in Appalachia Week which includes a film festival and lecture series. The first film is The Sky Crawlers which will be shown in Heth Hall room 014.

John Boyer, professor of geography at Virginia Tech, will give a special introduction before the film.

The Sky Crawlers is a 2008 Japanese anime film, directed by Mamoru Oshii. It is an adaptation of Hiroshi Mori's novel of the same name. It was released across Japanese theaters by Warner Bros. Japan on August 2, 2008.

Featuring the film festival and a demonstration of Japanese sword fighting on Wednesday, April 4, the week will also include a series of lectures on contemporary society and cultural issues relating to business, gender and education in Japan. All events are free and open to the public. The aim is to expand the university's focus on international issues.
